What is State Science Day?
For 60 years--and now with more than 50,000 alumni--State Science Day is the pinnacle of student originated, inquiry-based science education for Ohio's students. The academic equivalent of a State athletic championship, this year's event is the largest of its kind in the nation. Drawing upon an annual base of over 30,000 students at more than 1,000 local school science days or science fairs, more than 1,000 students in grades 7-12 from nearly 300 schools will be evaluated this year on their scientific research and communication skills, and will compete for more than 100 different scholarships and awards valued at more than $2,500,000. Both individual and team student research projects will be recognized. First held in 1949, the 58th Annual State Science Day is sponsored by The Ohio Academy of Science, American Electric Power, The Ohio Environmental Education Fund, and Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane Inc. State Science Day will be hosted by The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday, May 9, 2009.
The Ohio Academy of Science is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit Ohio corporation.
Contributions, exclusive of advertising and exhibits, are deductible for
Federal Income Tax purposes.
Support for State Science Day is provided by many sources. We especially acknowledge
generous in-kind and direct financial support from The Ohio State University, AEP-American Electric Power, Boehringer Ingelheim Roxane, Inc. and the Ohio Environmental Education Fund. Additionally, more than 800 judges and dozens of other volunteers contribute their volunteer time and talent. Without direct and in-kind underwriting the nominal $50 student entry fee would be more than $100, making the event unaffordable by many of Ohio's best and brightest young scientists.
