The Ohio Academy of Science established the OHIO ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM with a grant from the Ohio Environmental Education Fund (OEEF).  These merit-based, non-renewable, scholarships will fulfill the OEEF objective of "Providing scholarships in environmental sciences or environmental engineering at State colleges and universities" as outlined in House Bill 804 that established the OEEF on October 1, 1990. Scholarships will be given to Ohio students admitted to State and *private colleges and universities who can demonstrate their knowledge and commitment to careers in environmental sciences or environmental engineering. An Academy-appointed panel will select awardees.

Selection Criteria

Selection will be based on: (1) Academic record with an overall GPA of at least 3.0, (2) education, employment and/or internships, honors/awards, professional memberships, publications, presentations given and professional meetings attended, and community service, (3) reasons for choosing a career in environmental science or environmental engineering and how the scholarship will help, (4) original research, scholarship, employment and/or internships, or other unique contributions to environmental science or environmental engineering, (5) extra curricular activities and participation in organizations that demonstrates your leadership, interpersonal skills and social responsibility, (6) letters of recommendation from education or environmental professionals.

Objectives of the program include (1) to encourage studies in environmental science or environmental engineering, (2) to provide additional incentive and career motivation in the field of environmental protection, (3) to enhance and promote the professions of environmental science and environmental engineering, and (4) to award merit-based, scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students to further their education and enhance their employability in environmental fields. These scholarships will provide partial support for the last few quarters or semesters needed to complete a degree. Initially, a maximum of 10 university scholarships each valued at a maximum of $2,500 and a maximum of 10 community and technical college scholarships each valued at a maximum of $1,250 will be awarded. These scholarships will be limited to fourth or fifth year students at colleges and universities and second year students at technical and community colleges. I
