INDEX TO
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES AND OBITUARIES IN PUBLICATIONS OF THE
Compiled by Ronald L. Stuckey,
The history of any
organization is primarily derived from the contributions and achievements of its
individual members. The Ohio
Academy of Science through the past 105+ years has progressed because of the
efforts of many of its members.
Over the years both biographical sketches and obituaries of Academy
members and occasionally of other noted scientists have appeared in The Ohio
Naturalist (1900-1915), The Ohio Journal of Science (1915-2004),
The Annual Reports (1892-1930), The Proceedings (1892-1930),
The Ohio Academy of Science News (1948-1984), and The Ohio Academy of
Science Newsletter (1991-1993, 1995, 1997). Biographical sketches have appeared in
three other Academy publications, Ohio's Natural Heritage (1979), and
Exemplars: Women in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (1988, 1991).
Scientific contributions and achievements of these individuals are often
recorded in these sketches or obituaries.
The biographical
sketches and obituaries are listed alphabetically by the name of the scientist,
with his or her life dates (if deceased) as given in the article or determined
from it. The volume, page
number(s), and date that follow are understood to be for those biographical
sketches or obituaries published in the journal of the Academy, The Ohio
Naturalist (vols. 1-15) and The Ohio Journal of Science (vols.
16-105). Those references to
sketches and obituaries published in the Proceedings, the Annual
Reports, The Ohio Academy of Science News, The Ohio Academy of
Science Newsletter, Exemplars, Exemplars 2 (for the 1991
edition), and Ohio's Natural Heritage are so designated. Copies of these publications, which are
cited in this Index, are available in the office of The Ohio Academy of Science.
Bibliographical citations may be followed by the chairperson (ch.) of the
Necrology Committee or author of the obituary responsible for the biographical
sketch when known. A suggested outline for preparing obituaries is available in
the Appendix.
Biographical data or
references to biographical information also may be located in the following
